What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs Helen Ibbitson - Verified booking

The cottage was lovely, the reasons i didn't give a 5 for location is that it is on a fairly busy road on a bend and you have to be careful going in & out of the property with dogs. We didn't use the off road parking space which would have resolved this slight matter because it was a hassle to undo the gates every time and the spot was too tight to get in and out of easily & as said before reversing out onto the main road was an issue. So we parked across the road by the church. Also, the equipment provided was so much stuff in the kitchen that it left no room to put food. We took groceries so we didn't have to do a lot of shopping & planned to cook most nights but there was nowhere to put food other than the fridge or freezer which is no good for dry goods. We looked to empty a cupboard but there was so much stuff in every cupboard that we had to leave all the food on the working top which made the kitchen cramped. These 2 points did not detract from our holiday and we had a super time. There isn't a lot of room for dogs outside, so you have to take them a walk to do their business.

We had an amazing time at Borough House. A great house in the middle of the old part of town but tucked away from the crowds and noise. We loved being able to step out to the shops and explore without having to use the car. We had great weather and most days would eat our lunches overlooking the harbour - just a stone's throw from the front door. The beds are very comfortable with excellent linen and everywhere was incredibly clean and tidy. The rooms are very large - given the position of the house. The bathroom is up some stairs - but not much more than at home. My 86 year old Mum managed ok. We are all a little fitter than we were - which is a good thing! I highly recommend Borough House. Thank you for a great stay - and the wonderful welcome basket!

Beautiful little cottage in the heart of the town.

The owners should be very proud! We were worried it would be a little cramped but the use of the limited space is excellent. Lovely and clean throughout, and the information pack had everything we needed for our week's stay. Parking was another concern but it was really easy to use the visitor permits and we had no issues at all - one tip for the owners though, it may be helpful to print a small map highlighting the roads with visitor parking. Also, we had an unexpected issue with one of the radiators - the 'Maid in Whitby' lady who maintains the property was great, she had a plumber sent round in no time and the issue was sorted really quickly. We can't wait to visit Whitby again and would definitely consider booking April Cottage next time.

A small 1 bedroom cosy cottage, that welcomed our fur babies, in the town of Whitby.

We did not have a garden, but literally just a few steps outside our door, was a wonderful seating area, with plants and flowers, and an acknowledgement of Alice in Wonderland. The view, from the seating area, looking down on us, was of the church and the ruins of the Abbey. We sat here in the evenings with a glass of wine, it was so peaceful. The town of Whitby is bustling with people and some lovely shops selling an array of gifts, crafts, antiques and clothing. The harbour is full of bars, restaurants and places to rest and relax and of course beautiful beaches I'd recommend this cottage for one or two people, (and four legged friends)who just want a simple break away from the stress of working life

A Real Home from Home.. We have just returned from a five night stay at the Old School House and I must say what a find. Our first impression on a cold and wet arrival afternoon was the warmth of the cottage ,the underfloor heating made walking shoeless a delight. The kitchen had all the utensils you would need even Lobster picks (which were used) Only the two of us so can only comment on the double bed, very comfortable with crisp white linen. The bathroom was spotless with fluffy towels supplied and the ensuite shower was powerfull and hot. Thank you to all involved in making my holiday very enjoyable I look forward to going back soon..
