What our customers say about their holidays

    • Catherine - Verified booking

Rospletha Cottage is located in one of the most beautiful spots in Cornwall and probably the UK.

We had an amazing few days exploring the local area, with the Minack theatre, the coves and the coastal path right on our doorstep! Simply stunning! Sadly, the first few days of our week were spoiled by the unclean state of the kitchen when we arrived. I had to put all the plates, cutlery and utensils in the dishwasher, wash the tiles, the shelves, the glasses. There was even a full cup of coffee left in the microwave, with mould on it. There were cobwebs in lots of places (stressed me as I am not a fan of spiders) and we weren’t able to open the French doors onto the patio until the owner ‘forced’ them open later, which we had not dared to do. The hinges were just very rusty, due to the sea air I guess. We were also put off by the fact that the owners were staying in their wooden chalet in the garden, right across the cottage’s patio, so sitting outside didn’t feel private at all. This chalet is neither mentioned in the cottage description, nor showing on any of the photos for the cottage on Sykes. Also, there IS a huge field at the back of the house, with sea views, but it is also the overflow car park for the Minack theatre, so every afternoon, we had hundreds of cars/vans and people just 100 meters or so from our rental. Again, something which is not mentioned in the description. The owners of the cottage / chalet had visitors coming across ‘our’ garden on two occasions…this was not acceptable. On the first night, we arrived quite late because of heavy holiday traffic. When I saw the lack of cleanliness in the kitchen (namely dirty plates and cutlery draw), I went over to the chalet to mention this to the owner (who had just welcomed us and said to come and see him if there were any problems). I thought they’d like to let their cleaning company know…well, I was not received well at all! I won’t go into the details as we did receive apologies the next morning but I was left shaken. Rospletha is an amazing place, but, as a family, we all felt the same: Rosphetha Cottage needs more cleaning, TLC and private garden space. Also, I would not have chosen this cottage if I’d known that we would be sharing the garden with its owners.

We arrived to the cottage just after 3.

00pm Sunday afternoon. When passing through the rear gate we were confronted by a strong smell, it was apparent it was coming from the various waste bins. On entering the property we immediately read the information booklet which stated that the bins required leaving at the rear gate, and collection day was Monday. With this in mind I went to move the bins to the gate for collection the next day. As I moved the large black waste bag/sack a rat ran out from underneath and scurried under the shed, also I was covered in all types of flies. It was clear the bins hadn't been emptied in weeks. Not the way I envisaged to start my holiday. Being unable to contact the owners, I contacted Sykes but got no adequate response. In order to try and resolve the issue i read through the information booklet. There were six 'bins' in total no information as to which bins should be put out and on what date. However, on speaking with the lady living in the adjoining property she advised of what bins were due for collection that week and that collection day was in fact Tuesdays. She also said the bins would not be collected from the rear gate and we were to place them at the end of the drive. Thus explaining why none had been emptied for a number of weeks. The main problem was the general waste bin and sack. The bin was already overflowing on our arrival so we were unable to use that. Reluctantly on our last day we placed our black rubbish bag in the black sack, this being the sack the rat had gnawed into. I have to say the inside of the property was lovely and very clean. The outdoor space could also do with some maintenance. The patio and paths were full of weeds. The length of the grass at the top of the garden was also very long which was not helpful when trying to locate the area where our dog had done her business.

The house is lovely, spacious and unlike most houses it has everything you need.

Soaps, cleaning supplies, cling film and foil, tea towels, towels lots of cooking supplies etc were supplied which was a pleasant surprise. Lots of room for parking, big garden which isn’t overlooked. We were a party of 5 and a 9 month old baby. I would say the property isn’t really suitable for a baby on the move. We had to move a few things out of the lounge and into the conservatory and use the table to block off the fireplace and not use the conservatory, not really a big deal. Although the house was cleaned, they do allow dogs downstairs so inevitably there are still hairs around which stuck to the toys we had for the baby so lots of cleaning had to be done. (Comes with having a baby though!) We did bring a blanket of our own to put down but the lounge is a huge space so not everything could be covered. None of the curtains are blackout either so myself and the baby would wake early because of the light. Not an issue in winter though. The window in the silver room has a huge cobweb at the top and a dead spider but can be easily cleaned so again not a big deal. The shower head is the same size as the shower meaning you have to turn it off to wash your hair and apply soap as there is no room to get out from under the water. I would say that’s the only downside to the property. It was lovely to have the pond and listen to the water running. All of the rooms are spacious. The Green room could benefit from a new mattress as you really feel the springs, between that and the metal frame which creaks it’s quite noisy if you toss and turn a lot in your sleep. Each room I believe had a blanket available which was nice. The washing machine and tumble dryer were larger capacity drums which was great. I’d definitely recommend to others.

We absolutely loved our week here.

What a beautiful house and garden in Sennen. Not too far to a beach or a pub for lunch and we spent our afternoons sunbathing in the garden on the lovely comfortable garden furniture- including a hammock. Met the neighbours including Kevin and Kitty the chihuahuas. Our dogs loved the space too and the beach of course. Most places are now dog friendly and even the dogs got a pack of treats. The welcome pack was the best ever at a property we have received and the scones clotted cream and jam were very tasty!! We only found Alexa a few days - like being at home. Fantastic array of stuff left in the house such as tea bags, some coffee pods, black bags, dishwasher and washing machine pods and things like salt and pepper and vinegar was in the cupboard- makes such a difference not having to buy (or travel with) all that stuff! When we were there another company I had booked a holiday with got in touch to say we had been double booked and would I like a refund or book somewhere else - so refund it was and we re-booked Stargazers for my birthday in September. It is a little expensive (for a skint NHS worker) but you get what you pay for - I’d like to book every year to go back! By far the best air bnb we have stayed in! No visitor book to sign or comment and no owner manual but all the instructions for microwave etc were in the kitchen- the microwave looked a bit space age - but found the instructions and it was easy then! Thanks to the neighbour who recommended beaches and places to visit but we mainly chilled at the house - oh and we took Harry the tortoise

We stayed at 28 The Turnpike for 2 weeks in August this year, there were 6 of us and we absolutely loved the property!

Probably the best we've ever stayed in Cornwall over the last 30 years. It was well kept, neat, tidy with some new modern decor and had everything we needed to make a cracking stay, right down to the smallest of details. I don't agree with some of the negative comments on the reviews below/above, of course there will be personal stuff around locked away, this is someone's personal home that they have kindly let us stay in, so it's not going to be like a 5 star hotel, but that just made it feel really homely! As for being kid friendly, we think it definitely was, you can't expect the owner to make it perfect for your child, you have to be prepared to compromise and take some of the responsibly on yourself. ....Complaining about a rose bush in the garden??? ....Really?? Speaking of which, the garden was lovely, plenty big enough for kids and the dogs to play, a beautiful little pond, a great outdoor seating area, nice little utility room for the beach wear after a long day in the sand, a nice big lounge with all the tv stations on a nice big tv and comfy couches and really spacious bedrooms. The 3 bathrooms came in really handy with 6 people staying there too. Absolutely lovely neighbours too, who were always at hand to advise on things like bin days etc. We had 2 cars and a trailer and the driveway and there was plenty of space left for parking and just a few gorgeous miles walk to Cape Cornwall along the most beautiful of Cornish valleys. I can't recommend this place enough, we'll definitely be trying to book again next year.
