What our customers say about their holidays

    • Nicky - Verified booking

This is a beautiful, if expensive, holiday cottage.

However, I was EXTREMELY ANNOYED when I arrived and the floor of the double bedroom was soaking wet. The window has obviously been left open by the previous tenant; when we arrived all windows were closed. The cleaner must have known about the floor and I contacted the owner that afternoon. Nothing was done or said. For the first few nights I was stepping out of bed onto a WET floor, which then remained damp for a few days with a damp smell appearing. Had this been a hotel I would have been re- roomed. I’m very disappointed that nothing was done and no compensation offered. This is unacceptable in a cottage costing over £1000. Sykes were very helpful but sadly the owner was not interested. Other smaller comments are that the App said there was hot tub and their wasn’t; the clothes airer was broken and whoever thought it was a good idea to put a full length mirror on the bathroom door directly opposite the toilet clearly didn’t sit on the toilet! I have used Sykes many times and had some lovely cottages but this one and the owner need to revisit customer service sadly.

We were very impressed with the holiday cottage.

Situated in a pretty little village with Lovely views looking out over fields. The cottage had all the mod cons needed with the added extra of a coffee machine! There was plenty of room for a family of 4. Some little points we thought we’d like to mention. Would be great to have a washing line or clothes airer to hang wet cloths. The pillows on the beds were flat as pancakes - we had to buy extra to make them work! Although the cottage was clean and tidy, attention to detail would elevate this property to excellent - dead flies in the light shade in bathroom. Limescale around plug hole in bathroom. Mirrors all streaky. Lamp shades in bedrooms all croaked. Towels were too small - bath sheet better than a bath towel. Cheap bedding. An investment into bedding and towels would be a bonus. Such a shame these littles things are added to this review but first impressions really do count! All said it was a great cottage and based just where we needed to be. The points above did not spoil our holiday just a recommendation.

This is a lovely little cottage in a pretty setting.

It is well equipped and has a lovely outside area for a dog, however it is not enclosed as described so your pet could wonder off if inclined. I found the sofa a little uncomfortable as it's deep and the back cushions weren't very firm, but there was a few lose cushions that could be used for back support. The downstairs bedroom and toilet/ shower room was great for my elderly mother and the loft room with a double bed was spacious and comfortable. Some limited head room over the sink and bath but descent shower in the downstairs bathroom. The cleaners had missed a few cobwebs but overall the cottage was clean and tidy. Freshwater is a small town but it has a petrol station, large Tesco and a lovely pub serving food as well as a chip shop and a couple of other food outlets. You do need to drive to get to attractions but it is very handy for the ferry crossing in Yarmouth which is a few mins drive away. The owner was very friendly and welcoming, I would stay here again!.

Pros: Good facilities, plus extra like Nespresso coffee machine.

Good solid patio furniture. Although small, the living area did not feel cramped (4 adults and dog). Nice open field in front of property and was quiet. Easy check in with key box. In general well kitted out. Cons: Cleanliness, not just areas that had not been dusted for quite a while but all the kitchen/bathroom plugs and plugs holes were slimy and and unclean. The kitchen sink was discoloured and came cleaner when applying some "elbow grease". The vacuum was not good and didn't really pick up much. In general it looked like it had received a wipe over not a good clean. Stain on sheet and no pillow protectors. Issue with Wi-fi - however sorted on day. Broken shower temperature control (again had not been checked before we arrived) meant coldish shower on first morning, this was rectified the same day.

      Comfortable yet pretty basic.

It gives the impression it is rather secluded but there are other properties around, currently including building work. It would have been nice to know this upon booking as it did spoil the view. Lounge/dining furniture could do with an update, overall it’s comfortable, it’s clean and pleasant but no wow factor throughout. Conveniently located to travel around the Isle of Wight, a brisk 20 minute walk to Yarmouth or any easy drive or bus ride. Lovely and warm in the winter months we are sure but on sunnier days could do with a fan in the main bedroom and more kitchen utensils like washing up brush or cloth. Good location for dogs with outdoor space. Okay for two adults, two children but feel it would be too small for four adults due to small downstairs space and lack of seating. Easy check in and check out.
