What our customers say about their holidays

    • Linda - Verified booking

The property itself has all you need for self catering holiday.

If you like a hard mattress then the beds are fine but myself & sister take our own thick bed toppers to help make the mattress more comfortable. The kitchen has all the usual equipment so meals can be prepared & cooked. The main downfalls which we encountered last year & this year also is there is no lighting in the car park which is just a rough earth surface & is pitch dark in the evening when coming back from a night out & no lighting in the area where Drakes cottage along with all the others in that complex are, which are set out in a quadrangle around a grassed patch in front of the cottages, the lights on the cottages occupied by owners & holiday makers are the only available outside lights on the cottages so you can see your way back to your holiday home & only if the people in them leave the light on ( most don’t) & they are on timers.. we asked the owner could he do the timer to go off at 12pm which he did as he was in the island at the time. Holiday makers don’t have access to the timer or Lx outside lights, I recommend taking a good torch. Also the smell that smells like rotten eggs permeates the area & it’s vile, windows had to be kept shut both times we were there in September last year & this. Some say it’s the pond causing the smell which does appear more strongly when you’re near the pond and the pond is near the cottages. Also evidently there is a sewage plant adjacent to the car park and the cottages, some think it comes from there, tbh you can’t fully tell where it comes from is vile and very offputting. After experiencing it two years running. I don’t know if myself and my sister would go back again I really couldn’t stand it. It made me gag and heave. Other than that the cottage is very nice apart from the beds being too firm and that awful smell that’s constantly there.

We were greeted by the owner Diane, pretty hard to find the cottage when it’s pitch black and the instructions weren’t clear.

The parking isn’t very convenient as we were supposed to park a long way from the cottage in a wooded area, however the lovely neighbour let us park in her drive!!! I have to say, the neighbours are absolutely delightful, so helpful and kind with assisting us with a lost parcel and showing us where to go when we arrived. They must get tired of people coming and going but didn’t show it at all. They were just lovely. The WIFI is terrible. We struggled all week to get a signal and mainly used all of our 4G up. It could do with Broadband and not 4G connection given how much people rely on their laptops and phones. Both beds were pretty hard and uncomfortable and the second bedroom could use two single beds instead of one double. Our twins are 14 and they weren’t keen on sharing a double bed together! Can’t imagine adults or other children would like that either. The kitchen is fairly well equipped but you wouldn’t want to cook a roast dinner as there is a lack of utilities. The property has a lot of character and is an interesting design. It does look as though pieces from varying houses have been placed in the house as nothing matches - modern, boho, Victorian pictures, mandala canvas, old chairs, up cycled chairs - it didn’t flow well & honestly looked like leftovers from other properties. The sofa in the lounge area was extremely uncomfortable. However the electric fire was cosy. The Prosecco was a nice touch as well as the dressing gowns and slippers. Would I recommend the property? Probably not - but we wouldn’t go back to the area again anyway. The neighbours were the highlight though as they were just so accommodating and friendly.

Nice property, just a 2 mile walk from Deal seafront.

Makes a nice walk with the dogs. Plenty of room to walk the dogs in the woods for their morning and evening ablutions. Nice large property with 2 lovely bedrooms. Loads of room for 2 couples upstairs but living room area may be a little cozy with 4 people in there. Kitchen was well equipped, but one thing my wife commented on was the lack of a measuring jug, or ovenproof dishes in which to prepare casserole type meals. The only 2 negatives for us was, it was very bad weather with storm Arlene blowing a gale and we could not get the rooms to heat up further than what they were set for. Tried to just turn the dial up a few degrees on the boiler, but to no avail.. Nothing in the notes and we didn't want to start messing with any of the boiler settings. Also didn't want to annoy the owners every 5 minutes. The sofa in the living room was not great at all. I think it must be amongst the top 3 list of uncomfortable things I've ever sat on. I would defy anyone to sit still for more than 10 minutes without having to rearrange their buttocks. We only had a 3 night break, so none of these things spoiled our stay, but I think a week would have been a different matter.

The Thames reach is a wonderfully relaxing place to stay a place were you don’t need to go far to experience the peace of nature the property is huge and the garden full of life I booked during the rainy and cold season yet this place is so lovely I did not feel the need to leave and a bit of sadness when having to leave the walk around the premises will feel like a nice brisk hike with a lovely warm cozy house to come back to the utilities provided go above and beyond the open plan arrangement is so welcoming and relaxing I happens too meet the owner on occasions and both times they were very welcoming I had such a relaxing stay and will definitely be coming back in the summer if your finding yourself stressed and needing somewhere to escape than look no further I can’t wait to come back again

Arrived after having to ring the owners as could not find it on my Sat Nav which actually shows it on the wrong side of the road.

It is setback from the A329, not far south from the Winterbrook roundabouts, next door and on the same side as Riverside. Lovely location and well equipped as per the advertisements. Only comment is that the double bed was a bit hard but that’s personal preference. In the summer it would be lovely walking down to the Thames path, which is through the owner’s huge garden, it was rather wet during the visit but still manged to get down to the river. Met the owners by accident one day and had a nice chat, lovely couple. Can only recommend the property and location.
