What our customers say about their holidays

    • Caroline - Verified booking

Very comfortable well equipped property, with fabulous views.

The kitchen had great equipment for cooking, the only thing missing was some mugs to drink from. Perhaps I drink a cup of tea quicker than some people - but for me a cup is not big enough :-) We heard strange noises a couple of nights and thought someone was upstairs, but after reading the guest book we saw that someone else had worked out it was the chairs on the uneven balcony surface rocking back and forth in the wind! It honestly sounded like someone was bouncing a ball on the ceiling. It didn't keep me awake but I did wonder what it was until I read the guest book. Might be worth putting something under the chair legs to even them out, or at least warn people of this in the notes so they can move the chairs at night if it bothers them (only happens when it is windy). Some of the instructions in the folder seemed out of date - there was reference to a separate parking area which I can only imagine used to be where the next door property now sits - the description just didn't make sense - we spent quite a lot of time looking for this as we had 2 cars and the turning area in front of the property is very tight. Leaving instructions were also a bit confusing - the folder info said a padded envelope would be provided and to put this in a letterbox by the gate, but I couldn't see where that was, and the email instructions seemed to indicate the key should go back where we got it from (in the key safe), so I just did that. The hot tub was brilliant and we used it a lot - my only comment there is that it would have been nice to have a robe for everyone in the property, rather than just 4 - it is supposed to sleep 7 and we were 6 adults so all using the hot tub, and in March the robes were much appreciated for those who had them! All in all, this is a lovely property in a great location, and we would return. My comments are just small points for improvement to make it even better.

Overall we had a lovely stay at this property and there were many wonderful features.

The space, the storage, parking, hot tub, all contributed to our ability to relax and enjoy ourselves. We slept well, and the beds were as described, zip-link, so that wasn’t the shock to us as it seemed to be for others. Bathrooms and towels were lovely and there was plenty of hot water and good water pressure in the shower. The kitchen was well equipped and can’t be improved, the fridge freezer was excellent. However, there are some negatives and whilst we don’t want to overly criticise, some comments are necessary. Our first impression was spoiled as we walked into the garden to be met with overgrown “grass” which was just a collection of long weeds. It looked so scruffy and we were disappointed. No one came during our stay to cut this, so I’m not sure what the arrangements are. It shouldn’t be something that a guest should have to feed back - grass grows, so you need a regular gardener. Indoors the property looked great at first glance and on the surface but the place is starting to look scruffy and not well cared for. I doubt the king size bed downstairs has been moved in months to be cleaned under, as it was dreadful. We always check whether anything has rolled under the bed before we leave and were horrified by the debris and thick dust that had clearly built up over time. The bed is on a hard floor so is easily movable. We booked a couple of months before the date of travel and therefore the price we paid was lower than usual, so we still feel that we had fair value for money when we take into account the cost of running the hot tub etc. However, looking ahead at the normal weekly cost, it can’t be justified for us, as this property needs some attention if it is to compete with other similar sized properties with the same facilities that we have also stayed in.

Lovely house in a fab location!

We were a family of 5 (2 parents, 2 children and a grandparent). The house was suitable for all. Lots of space and the open plan worked better than I expected -we have family nearby and they were able to visit us. Lots of films and games which we took advantage of due to back to back storms meaning we didn't get out as much as we had planned. The sofas are soft for relaxing in the living area, but firmer in the conservatory if preferred, and the large dining table is great to seat everyone around. The kitchen has everything you'd need and more. The tea, coffee and milk provided on arrival were much appreciated! The bathrooms were clean and had mini soaps etc. Showers good and bath amazing! The beds are all zip up which is in the description, so you do feel the join in the doubles. We all slept OK though. Hot tub was a hit and used most days. The garden and parking are great features to the property as I'm informed there aren't many of either in the area. At most a 10 minute walk to Porthmear beach one way or the town centre the other direction (a bit longer coming back up the hills!) We are certainly considering returning. A couple of tips if you do come here - follow signs to Tate St Ives from the A30 (it avoids the town center); book evening meals in advance; go to the surf school; visit St Ives bakery; walk around all the seafront and Harbour. Enjoy this wonderful part of the country! Spernenwyn has everything you could need as a home from home. The only things we missed were oven gloves and a bottle brush to clean our reusable water bottles. One thing to note is if you have younger children all the external doors (5 around the property) can be opened from the inside.
