What our customers say about their holidays

    • Sharon - Verified booking

Ramblers Rest is a lovely apartment with gorgeous views & a very friendly pair of resident ducks on the pond in the grounds.

It was clean & comfortable with everything you need for a short stay. The bed was very comfortable, but the room is a little overcrowded with big wooden furniture making it difficult to move around in there. The shower curtain was missing on arrival but this was soon put right after a phone call to Lakelovers /Sykes. We found the WiFi a bit hit & miss which does affect the television channels you can receive, but this wasn’t a huge problem. There is limited mobile signal too. A comment for the owners would be to update the instruction sheets & bin all the old ones. It was a little confusing to say the least, which is a shame when a lot of effort has been put in to make it easy to work the various pieces of equipment in the apartment. A comment for Sykes would be to give a better idea of just how far the parking space is from the apartment. This may not be an issue for most people, but we are the wrong side of 60 & my husband has a health condition which meant I had several long trips to & from the car when we arrived & left. Overall it was a great place to stay for a few nights & we had a nice time at Ramblers Rest.

We had a great stay at the old laundry, one of 3 cottages in this small complex that we visit regularly.

However, upon arrival the cottage was not as clean as I would expect in this day and age. Clearly the previous guests had a dog ( and would have been charged extra, usually £30 for what the holiday letting company call extra cleaning !!! ) the sofa, cushions and rug were full of dog hair, the glass on the front door full of dirty muddy marks. We also found a pair of walking socks behind the radiator covered in dog hairs/cobwebs. If you looked up every corner of the cottage had a spider residing in it. The place just did not feel clean. The 1st bedroom had 1 toilet roll and the second had just 8 sheets left on an old roll it also had no hand-wash, no kitchen towel and once the kitchen bin was full we had to go and buy more bin liners because there were none in the cottage. If this was a cheap holiday cottage then I may expect to have to ruff it a bit but this was almost £1,500 originally and we booked it when it was reduced, but we still paid £1,000 for the week. Am I expecting too much? Would I stay there again, probably but only if the other 2 cottages were booked up. Somewhat disappointed.

Lakelovers are not accurately describing this property.

Nor are they honest with their customers. Received an email 45 mins before check in advising that the dishwasher was broken and an engineer was coming out. On speaking with the owner, it’s been broken for months. I also enquired with LL when the pool house would reopen, to be told that Lakelovers have nothing to do with the pool. Again on speaking with the owner it’s been closed since before we booked but yet Lakelovers are quite happy to list this as a feature. The property is also not being cleaned properly. Shower curtain mouldy, kitchen cupboards, walls and skirting are filthy and the cleaners are just wiping round strong bleach which is overpowering when you enter the door. The location is good, the views are lovely, and if advertised accurately, you’d know what to expect. All in all, the location is what’s great about this property, the bonus of a washing machine and piping hot water. Shame on Lakelovers for not working for the owner effectively. I’d stay at the property again if it was advertised elsewhere but won’t book with LL again.

The property's location was perfect for me and also dog friendly too.

So peaceful (silence and no light poution), beautiful views, and not too far from a couple of pubs and the village of Hawkshead. The field adjoining the property was perfect to let my dog Minnie, have a safe run around. I stopped in the Coniston accommodation which was perfect for me, very clean and very comfortable. I had previously read reviews that highlighted that you could hear some noise from the flat above but i accepted that risk when I booked. My lived experience was that during the first 4 days (of my 6 day stay) I heard very little. My last 2 nights was slightly more challenging though. Dont get me wrong, I didn't feel like I had part of the Riverdance dance troop staying above me but the level of noise did increase. Im not sure what the owners can do, other than let the flat above be very aware that not wearing clogs would be more than appreciated by those downstairs. I would advise that if you are easily irritated by any noise from above, then the Coniston isnt for you. I will be going back for sure.

      Stunning location.

The accommodation is not luxurious but it is comfortable and spotlessly clean. The garden is great for dogs and children but although there have obviously been tubs for bedding plants in the past these were no longer in use. It did look a little lacking in TLC as a result. My husband has limited mobility and although Coniston is not specifically adapted for disabled people he was able to manoeuvre his walker around inside with no problem and use the shower with the suction grab handles that we brought with us. The only issues that we had were a) not enough toilet paper - there is an "allowance" of 2 rolls so if you think that you are going to use more then bring some with you! b) We had very heavy winter weight duvets, we asked if they had any summer ones but they did not but we were supplied with an extra sheet to use with the bedspread. If we continue to get such hot summers then this is maybe something the managers of the accommodation would like to consider. We will certainly return
