What our customers say about their holidays

    • Peter - Verified booking

We found the property to be clean and warm but in need of an update.

The 13amp single socket on the landing was loose and needed repair before it could be safely used. As a retired electronics engineer turned latterly to a health and safety inspector I was disappointed to find an electrical outlet in that state. I couldn’t see the point of having a bath with a shower over the bath when the bath taps only fed the shower and wouldn’t fill the bath, why have a bath you couldn’t use unless you wanted to spent an age filling it with the shower. We particularly pick sites with secure outdoor space so we can relax outside with a coffee, my wife has a disability that impacts her walking so we usually stay at the property’s every other day and sit out talking ect. The outdoor space was disgusting. The grass was 13/14cm long and when I checked it I found several places where dogs had been to the toilet. I picked some up but gave up in disgust, if you want pictures I can send you some. The table and two chairs had an ashtray full of water and cigarette ash and stubbed out cigarettes. The neighbours next door even offered the use of their garden for our use because of the state of our space. As a plus point the parking was easily accessed and had ample room for two cars if needed. Overall my view was, although the house was warm and the sleeping arrangements warm and comfortable we would not pick the house again. I will add, but I’m not surprised, this is the first Sykes cottage we have stayed in that had no comments book for customer feed back.

We had such a lovely weekend at Tawny Cottage, if you're looking for a little escape to unwind, this is your place.

We took our 18 month little boy and dog and had a great time! Plenty of room for us all and very cosy, the cottage was very well equipped with everything you needed. The owners had a few niggles with the boiler but were so helpful and gave us extra logs for the fire, which as soon as it got going heated the whole cottage it was bliss, they couldn't have done enough to help. We had a Christmas tree too, so after a windy walk along the beach, coming back to the fire and a few Christmas films on Netflix was just perfect (Smart TV). My little boy enjoyed seeing the fish and the other animals, the owners were so friendly and happy to chat and even brought round some fizz and chocolates. It was a lot more private than I thought it would be, you're not overlooked by any of the other cottages when you're in the hot tub which was great. All the cottages have been done to a very high spec, it was spotless and very clean. A 10 minute drive to Scarborough, 30 minutes to Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay, the location was ideal, we'll definitely be back in the new year. Thank you for a lovely weekend!

Me and my partner stayed in the Tawny Cottage and it was very beautifully decorated and super cosy!

We absolutely loved our stay and the area around us, waking up to the view of the country side, horses and sheep was wonderful! We loved the little touches like been able to relax after been in the hot tub to watch a film on Netflix! The location was perfect for visiting places such as Whitby, Goathland and Dalby Forest. The only downfall with our stay was the plot next door to the cottages is currently under construction which was very loud, this wasn't too bad with us having day trips out by the time we was back to the cottage the workmen had finished for the day and if other cottages have guests visiting/staying over this was causing a little bit of hassle with parking which we didn't think was fair as we was paying customers we should be able to park when returning for the night! Other then issues which was nothing to do with the hosts the stay was lovely and the hosts was wonderful, so lovely to chat to and very helpful! We would love to return in the future and maybe stay in another cottage/lodge!

      Sofas diabilcally unsafe.

DEFINATELY A HAZARD bum nearly on the floor. Bathroom not been cleaned upon arrival. Garden no lighting. Solar lighting would be good. No way for dogs to see. . Not next to property. Expected to clea whole house before leaving. Vacum made house smell. Upon arrival strong smell of dog urine. Spent money on joss sticks to stem the smell. Possibly wood floor or lino would help with smell. Soft furnishing need cleaning. Awful smelly....maybe owner to spot check cleaners occasionally. We spend extra to have houses cleaned, yes we clean as we do at home, but think it's a check to do thorough deep clean upon leaving as we didn't find this on arrival. 2nd time we booked expected sofas to been replaced. . Plants front garden should be trimmed so front windows can be opened too give fresh air. Some little snag lists to be repaired plugs small fingers can get in. Taps loose etc. Possibly owners to stay clear for weekend to see how it is for clients.

We had an amazing time in Tawny Cottage, it’s beautifully decorated, very clean and the facilities are excellent.

Great information given about the surroundings on arrival. A lovely hot tub to relax in and the hosts seem happy to help should you need anything. Only one note for dog walkers a lot of the surrounding areas are private land, took me about half an hour of walking along country roads to find somewhere I could let my dog off the leader for a run about, but the countryside surrounding the cottage is lovely. If you’re taking very young children pack a harness or sling as immediate walks aren’t pushchair friendly. Some lovely places to take children a short drive away, Sealife centre, a farm, lovely beaches, soft plays it really does have everything! I would highly recommend staying here and we will be visiting again!
