We spent a weekend at "The Stang Hideaway" in August, for a relaxing 3-night stay with my partner and our little dog.
The views were gorgeous, and the location was as peaceful as a library on a snowy day. But there were a few surprises that gave us a good laugh! First off, the wine cooler was ice-coldâunlike the fridge, which was warm enough to double as a sauna . If youâre planning to brew some coffee, don't forget to bring your own coffee pods; the same goes for dishwasher tablets as there was non available and the free washing up liquid was limited to a very small bottle (use sparingly). The "fully equipped" kitchen was a bit like a game of culinary hide-and-seek, with basic items playing hard to get. And if youâre using the breakfast bar or that âsumptuousâ sofa, be prepared to get very close to your partnerâlike, "hope-you-really-love-each-other" close, perfect if your on a romantic break! Now, letâs talk Wi-Fi. Remember the days of dial-up internet? If youâre feeling nostalgic, youâre in luckâthis Wi-Fi will take you right back to the 90s with its charmingly slow speeds which can cause the TV to frequently show the circle of death when it tries to catch up, perhaps it was intentional to create a romantic atmosphere. The outside decking is lovely, but it could use a gate to be truly dog-friendly. And don't be surprised if you step outside to find a crowd in the treehouseâitâs open to everyone on the park, so you might end up with an audience for your morning coffee or romantic sunset. All in all, it was clean and the tranquility was delightful, the stay didnât quite match up to the price given thereâs a lot of competition in the area. Hereâs hoping for some improvements in the future, but hey, we still enjoyed the peace and quiet and lovely views!

Abbey View has obviously been done to a very high standard and we found it very comfortable and really enjoyed our stay.
However, a few minor details let it down slightly. The welcome pack was akin to a budget hotel with cheap coffee and UHT milk- this little detail on arrival can make all the difference, although the biscuits were really good. Itâs not clear in the information that the house is situated next to a very busy and noisy road with a constant stream of traffic at all times of day and night. Although we did get used to it, it was wasnât as peaceful as we wouldâve liked. Situated on the outskirts of Whitby, it was a fair walk into the centre, but the park and ride was a few minutes walk at the top of the road, much handier than taking the car in. A local hotel was situated there too, which was excellent for food and drinks and a great place to sit out on sunny night. The house had great selection of kitchen equipment etc, but sadly lacking in enough dinnerware and glasses, ( no beer glasses) so meant constantly washing dishes as there wasnât enough without putting the dishwasher all the time. More concerning was the washing machine. I mistakenly put it on early one morning, but had to stop if half way through as it tried to make a bid for freedom, jumping about during the spin cycle. I shudder to think what wouldâve happened if we had put it on before going out!! All in all, a lovely holiday home. These issues are not complaints but for the cost of a week staying here, you expect certain standards. A few tweaks would make all the difference.

Pretty and clean.
Photos on website misleading. Looked like the patio was bigger and not separate from chalet... had to go across a little kind of alleyway which wasn't private from the other chalets. Was only a bed and a small chair, would've been nice to have a small sofa maybe..... In handbook it said ask for more towels .... no place to really put them to dry off from using hot tub....would have been an inconvenience to the staff keep on asking as we got through a few of our own being in the hot tub alot. Had to shower before and after using the hot tub. With it being self catering it would benefit from more than just the tiny air fryer and the microwave in the cupboard. The bar was only open on our second night. Closest chip shop (which was great) was 5 miles drive away. Was unable to connect to the Wifi as the password kept coming up invalid. Would have contacted the owner but was stated in handbook only contact between 9pm and 9.30am .... with only being there 2 nights was not really worth it. Had a nice stay all in all, only booked as was on offer....it would have been very disappointing if had paid full price. Maybe been spoilt in other places we have stayed in.

The property is beautiful and very clean!
!! The bathroom is gorgeous and the bathtub is a key feature. I loved having the bathroom door open to the outside overlooking the wheat field while soaking in the tub. Bed was very comfortable. Only a couple of things that need a little work. The owners would benefit from staying, cooking and cleaning there for a few days as there are some essentials missing such as dishcloths, dish rack to dry dishes, dish washer tablets and we may have needed more than one roll of loo roll. It didnât hinder our stay too much, but it lost a bit of that luxury feel someone has worked hard to make. The other thing is, the photos are a little deceptive and donât show you are attached to a caravan park at the back. Itâs still secluded and very quite but attached to a caravan park that appears to hold peopleâs mobile caravans. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend but would encourage the owners to look at little essentials.

The property was beautiful and in a great location, with a lovely view.
just 5 minutes away from Whitby and 10 Minutes away from goathland. The kitchen was really well equipped and the beds/sofa really comfy. All new furniture and you could see a lot of detail has been put into this property. The waterfall shower was great. I would definitely stay here again. The garden was great however as a small dog owner I feel the gate could have been more secure as there are large gaps in between the wood which my dogs could escape from, nothing a bit of chicken wire wouldnât fix to put me at ease. The toilet seat was loose in one of the rooms and the flusher didnât work too well, and the shower seal is lose when she shower door is closed, just a note to look at getting fixed but this didnât in anyway impact our lovely stay. Could do with leaving a bit more toilet roll and a kitchen worktop spray. Thank you for a lovely stay, the biscuits we got on arrival were a lovely touch and very tasty.
