What our customers say about their holidays

    • Emma - Verified booking

We have just got back from our stay here.

There was 10 of us and a baby, that went for Christmas. We had to take our own Christmas tree and try and make it Christmassy. (Sorry this is going to be a long review) On arrival, we had no cold water, so after text messages with the owner, we eventually got water, but to find the tap was broken and just dripped all the time. We then found out that we had no hot water or heating. Again after texting we had someone come out, but couldn’t get there till after 10pm. (It was the owner who came out, we found out afterwards.) He then had to call an engineer to come and help. So by 1:30/2am we were all sorted. After all this excitement, we went to bed, to find one bed had broken slats, so we had to repair the bed before going to sleep. We then had the fun of finding out that the downstairs shower didn’t work as we couldn’t get hot water to work in there. So we had 10 people of all ages using the main bathroom, that was not ideal. The cleanliness wasn’t the best. I cleaned the bathrooms and won’t put you off by saying how dirty the plugs etc was, it’s lucky I had some gloves on. On the surface, the house look lovely but once you started living there, you started to notice things that didn’t work or looked funny. It could be a fantastic house, if things where finished to a higher standard, but then again it did allow 4 dogs at a time (we only had one dog with us) It was missing the front door key. We had no instructions on how to use the cooker washing machine dishwasher, tumble dryer, etc thank goodness the Internet was good and we could find them all on Google. The main television in the front room had no main channels you had to watch BBC iPlayer or Netflix, lucky we had accounts. We had to message him again regarding rubbish and the bins etc. a hand book/welcome notice would have been very helpful. Would I book this house again, no. It’s a shame really as the beach was a lovely for children and you could walk there easily.

We found a runner on the stairs would be useful for safety reasons, especially when wearing socks.

Quite slippy, and not safe for the elderly, or small children. The water pressure in the bath and sink taps is very low, and it takes an awful long time to fill the bath. The shower in the upstairs bathroom would benefit from a shower door, as water soaks the floor by the toilet, when in use. The plug hole in the master bedroom shower needs unblocking, as the water does not drain away well, and fills the shower tray, to the point of overflowing. The basin in this en-suite is far too small, even to wash your hands, and water is splashed on the floor. No soap dish in the en-suite shower for people who like to use their own specific soap, and no shelf to put flannels etc. on. Non slip mats in all showers and bath would be useful, as we slipped in the showers more than once, when soapy water was on the shower tray floors. Also we had a very small child in our party, who again, found it very dangerous without a non slip bath mat to sit on. The step out to the patio from the bi-fold doors is very steep, and makes it difficult to get in and out for people with mobility issues, and for small children, who, if they accidentally fell out, could seriously injure themselves on the concrete patio floor.Maybe some large steps, or a small ramp would be a good idea. A door mat inside these doors would also be useful, as you are coming straight in from outside, onto the nice living room carpet. The taps in the kitchen could do with replacing, as they are quite rickety. Two light bulbs in the main living room chandeliers need replacing, and the fireplace does not work at all, and one or two days during our stay, it would have been nice to have had some warmth, as the weather was quite chilly at times. We therefore had to put the main heating on instead, which we thought was a bit excessive.

It was lovely to be the first guests at Seafarers and to be greeted with a pristine property.

The accommodation is very good with large comfortable bedrooms and a pleasant large living area and kitchen. The owners have obviously put a lot of thought and effort into equipping and furnishing the property. Seafarers is ideally located about 10 - 15 minutes walk to the centre of Scarborough, with a further 10 minutes to the attractions and beach at South Bay, whilst Peasholm Park and North Bay are a similar distance in the opposite direction. Our only negatives about the property are very much issues of personal choice. Our party included 3 children between the ages of 6 and 10 and we really missed not having a washing machine - we would have happily sacrificed the dishwasher for a washer to help clean sandy costumes and beach towels etc. We thought that the sauna was a nice usp but found we couldn't heat it to more than 40 degrees and it didn't feel overly hot and felt that a utility room and/or downstairs cloakroom would have been better use of the space. Overall we had a very pleasant stay at Seafarers and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a family holiday in Scarborough.

We had a lovely stay at Seefarers.

The house is gorgeous and full of character, lots of space for 8 of us. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils, pans, crockery, etc and the sauna is a lovely addition, very relaxing. The only thing I would say is the back yard could do with being jet-washed as there's moss all over the decking and table so it's not pleasant to sit outside. The location is perfect, Peasholm Park is a stones throw and there's lots to do there, we loved the dragon boat pedalos. North Bay Beach was lovely in the daytime but most things were closed at night, still worth a visit. We also had a ride on the steam train to the sealife centre which the kids loved. South Bay beach is only 15 minutes walk away and it was very busy but still enjoyable, much like the more traditional English seaside. The kids loved the amusements and fair and you could get decent meals from various cafes, bars and chip shops there. The house was the perfect base to visit all these from. We would definitely recommend a stay here, lovely!

Beautiful house in a great location.

Spacious, light and super clean, this was a perfect location for our family of 8. The welcome pack on arrival was much appreciated and we quickly settled in to our lovely home for the week. We had issues with connecting to the WiFi but on contacting the owner, someone was quickly sent over to help us. The only thing missing was a guide on bins (recycling vs general) and other information such as how to use the oven etc. However, there was a handy file on local places to visit which was helpful. We continued to have some issues with the WiFi but the family games provided were a great distraction for the teenagers in our group so it worked out well! Beds were comfy, garden was spacious with a summerhouse/games room that the kids made full use of and a great view from the large window in the living room. We all enjoyed the house immensely and would highly recommend staying here - and the pub at the end of the drive was very handy! Thank you for a lovely stay.
