What our customers say about their holidays

    • Julie - Verified booking

Driftwood needs a really good clean , on first look it's fine but when you stay you see that there is dust everywhere the ornaments and such need a good dusting .

The patio could do with a blast clean . The garden furniture could do with a scrub to get rid of all the spiderwebs . The living room carpet is full of stain marks . The cushions on the sofas were covered in marks and black dog hairs look like they need replacing . We would have had a restful time in polzeath but for the fact that there were a number of major building works happening resulting in a rude awakening from 7 am onwards , exceptionally loud scaffolding clangs and digging machinery, drilling etc . On arrival we had a double bed made up in a room that wasn't quite large enough for a double bed . It was placed against a wall resulting in a difficult scramble for one of the occupants to get out of bed should the need arise during the night . We had to unmake the bed and make up a bed in the other room. This first room would have been fine for children but not for us as we are over 65 years of age . A little thought on the caretakers behalf should have realised we were an adult couple with out children and both needed to extricate the bed from both sides . We have stayed in previous Sykes cottages and have in fact booked a further one for later this year on each occasion there have been complimentary items for the family . Not expensive things but a small bottle of milk and a couple of teabags for arrival. There was absolutely nothing at all we had to go to the shops to get some before we had even unpacked after an 8 hour journey this would have been most welcome . Furthermore when asked to leave the residence clean , there wasn't anything under the sink as far as cleaning products go to do this with apart from a cloth and brush . A bottle of some sort of all over cleaning product would have been useful. Overall not quite up to standard or worth the money . If this had been our first Sykes booking it would have been our last I'm afraid .

I read another item of feedback on this property a couple of weeks ago from Wayne and have to say our experience was totally the opposite!

We were welcomed in the property by a lovely welcome pack. The property was warm and welcoming and very clean. Our dogs were able to have the run of the garden as the fence (about 3 feet high) is secure The ground floor is open plan (as per the pictures) and has a log burner which was very welcome each night. There is a shower room with toilet and sink on the ground floor too. The kitchen is well appointed with a great fridge and plenty of pans and utensils. The piano needs a tune and a bit of work so my attempts at Bach may have had him turning in his grave! (That’s my excuse). Upstairs are three good bedrooms and a bathroom. All very well decorated and proportioned. There is a beam across the main bedroom which you have to remember is there at 3 in the morning - it hurts to walk into it! There is ample hanging space and plenty of drawers in each bedroom. Outside the hot tub was great to have and we used it regularly. I hope you have a great break there. We will go back as we love the area-there is so much around - the best being St Michaels Mount just over a mile away. I’d suggest driving as it is along a busy road with no footpath. There is also a beach about 20 minutes’ walk away at Perranuthnoe which is lovely. The village has two pubs, both 200 yards away, a village shop 400 yards away (and stocks plenty of everyday essentials) and a post office. Plus plenty of takeaways and restaurants if you are so inclined. The owner, Juliet, was great to deal with. Thank you for a great week!

Huge thank you to Juliet who provides such wonderful holiday accommodation in such a beautiful Cornish location.

'Home from Home' experience with a bottle of fizz waiting for us upon arrival and the hot tub warmed ready to 36 degrees ready for us to jump in! Gated garden was wonderful for all of us including our Cockapoo! Only a 15 minute walk to the nearest dog beach - Beautiful Perranuthnoe (summer months dog restricted hours to before 10am and after 6pm) and to join the South West Coastal Path. Dog owners can take a short 2 mile drive to Long Rock near Penzance to enjoy an all round very long dog beach! Very well equipped kitchen! Kids loved the American style fridge freezer with cold water dispenser. I loved the kitchen being central in the house so I didn't feel 'shut off' whilst cooking breakfast and dinner. Beds super comfy in ALL the rooms! Very friendly Cornish village - even got invited into someone's house whilst walking pooch and promised a meal if I come back next year! A great base for exploring the westerly side of Cornwall. We found loads to see and explore everyday day, including the old tin mines at Botallock where Poldark was filmed, the Minack Theatre, St Michaels Mount, Mousehole, St Ives, Sennen Cove, Lands End and Penzance! Would thoroughly recommend Roncon's Villa and hope to return!

This was our second time in Heron Cottage.

We enjoyed our stay just as much as the first. The cottage is very cosy, spotlessly clean from top to bottom, and it enjoys a central position in the village. Everything you could possibly need was on hand in the fully equipped kitchen. Also lots of DVDs for both adults and children (DVD player provided) in the cottage and linked into the new HDTV. WiFi is also provided, as was a number of board games and books to keep everyone occupied. All amenities are within a short walking distance. Including two pubs, fifty yards in either direction. We ate most nights at The Kingfisher where the food was great and the portions big. Lots of fresh locally caught sea food was on the 'Specials' menu. Best to book beforehand especially on weekends. Take a walk around the village where you'll find many interesting old streets with lots of history. We found everyone we met to be very friendly and always ready to have a chat. We would definitely recommend Heron Cottage. It's a great place to stay, as is the village of Coltyon, as a base to explore the wider region. We will definitely be back and will now be looking out for dates in 2025 to return.

The property looks very tired and in need of some TLC.

Jet spraying the walls to remove the caked in bird poo would be good The beds were extremely uncomfortable, the springs dug in and infact I tried to sleep in each bed as I could not avoid the springs in the main bed. My son, who is less sensitive than me, also had the same problem. It would be helpful to provide cleaning products, there were no surface sprays or cleaning materials for the bathroom, the toilet brush was broken. I would usually give the shower a quick clean everyday it would be great to have a shower cleaner and a useable toilet brush. This is the first time I have stayed in a cottage that doesn't provide a "care package" of milk tea bags and often other goodies, just to get you going. The skylights need something you can open them with and need blinds as the sun shines in directly, which is wonderful, but not so good when you are trying to keep the rooms.cool. Sorry for the long list, but I would want to know if it were my property. Also storage, we found the hoover in front of the door in the downstairs bedroom and the mop and bucket behind the arm chair! We loved the location and views from the upstairs bedroom.
