What our customers say about their holidays

    • Geoffrey - Verified booking

This review is late in coming to you because we have been away since occupying Flat 27 Bigbury on sea and is further to communications with Jackie and our interaction prior to our booking and having read the complaints during the summer about this flat.

On entering this flat one is amazed by the size and the views. However within twenty four hours of arrival you realise that this flat has been well used and most of the things in this flat are past their best. It has been cleaned to a superficial level but the dirt is in nooks and crannies that only a deep clean will cure. The list below is only some of the faults many of which have been noted in the visitors book particularly this year. Talking to the caretaker we were informed that the owner has not visited for nearly a year and he is left to do running repairs. It is in need of TLC, are his words. In the Kitchen the fridge has no Ice tray and no fridge light. There is no freezer which is a requirement in a holiday flat. The toaster has crumbs under the tray and on the tray. The toaster needed it's crumb trays washed. Waste food bin had grimed in dirt around the rim Knife block greasy, no small paring knife and some were purchased All glasses needed washing before use Dishwasher had no salt or rinse aid in it. Washing machine was too complicated and unable to activate the drying cycle Lights under shelves not working and shelves not clean Wooden tray not clean and all Items on tray not cleaned eg sugar bowl dried sugar solid and pot for tea bags filthy. In the Lounge the television was not very modern so disappointing not to obtain iPlayer or Netflix The light by TV does not work possible a loose wire Windows not very clean smeary ad balcony glass surround needs cleaning. Robert’s Radio very smeary Dust ++ on shelf Arms on soft furniture shiny and grubby Dining chairs between vertical slats dirty. In all rooms the shutters are not easy to open and have dropped and scuffed the floor and window sills. It needs a carpenter to rehang them. In fact there were some that we could never open. Doors and paintwork could do with a good wash or paint. In the bathroom the area behind the toilet pan was grubby No rubber cushions on the toilet lid and seat making them unstable. Bedside lamps with open glass shades had dirt and dead flies inside. The balcony furniture needs a complete set of cushions that fit. 2nd bedroom is very small and only suitable for children. The shower needs a complete upgrade with thermostatic valves. The light in the mirror is not working. A good point is that there was plenty of hot water. The bed and bed linen are very comfortable. The weather was good and we managed to make ourselves comfortable but the rent for the flat is totally overpriced as it does not deliver the level of modern conveniences and cleanliness one expects in a flat at this rental. I therefore request a refund of £400 and suggest the owners visit to see how much maintenance work is required as good cleaning can only be done if furniture and paintwork is maintained. Yours sincerely, Geoffrey Daddy

The cottage is beautiful with a serene surrounding, secluded and private so just what we were looking for It was excellently equipped with everything you needed and could want And the cottage itself is beautiful and quirky However the hot tub was a big disappointment for us as we always book somewhere with a hot tub and this was the worst hot tub we have ever had in the most expensive property we have ever stayed Alot of the jets don't work and for such a beautiful accommodation that sleeps 7 I would have expected a top of the range hot tub or spa bath However it is a basic range hot tub with only 1 pump attached when it can have 2 We walk in excess of 20,000 steps everyday and usually make extreme use of a hot tub It does not comfortably sit 4 people let alone 7 A few things bothered me that I noticed which could make this property even better, as it feels like the love is missing since the award was won in 2017 I had to clean the grill before using it as it was dirty, there was a disposable razor in top of the mirror from Previous people, the tops of the wardrobes are filthy discovered when we got our bags down at the end of the holiday so I wasn't looking for dust And the artwork around the house is not from the local area but from Zealand which I guess is a connection to the owners but it would have been nice to have local artwork Overall we enjoyed our stay very much it was a lovely private location with lots of great information for local walks and activities which we did, the cottage is a stunning building and you probably won't be disappointed

Nice cottage with everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

Cosy living area and a large dining table for family meals. Nice patio area with plenty of seating and we enjoyed the hot tub. The property is part of a complex of a few other properties but still felt very private. All spotlessly clean. Pretty much everything we needed in kitchen although a couple of smaller saucepans would be nice and there were loads of champagne flutes and not many wine glasses which seemed odd. Two fridges and a freezer which was great. Great location, close to st Agnes which had the most beautiful beach. All in all a pleasant stay with just a few minor niggles - As per another review we did struggle a little as we have a 16 month old and the floors are quite up and down so we spent a lot of time chasing her to stop her falling down steps. Would be helpful if listing mentioned this, pretty much every room has a step or two into it. A stair gate to go between lounge and hallway would be useful so we could have caged her in! The beds and pillows were feeling a little tired and weren't particularly comfortable, although they did have good quality bedding. The upstairs bathroom shower area would benefit from a refresh, some tiles looked a bit rusty or something. Would benefit from a tumble drier or at least another clothes airer or washing line as difficult to dry a whole load. All minor things really which didn't detract from an enjoyable stay

As a disabled person I always select our stays with Sykes, I fine their details of each and every property extremely helpful.

I have to have properties that are on one level, along with walk in shower facilities, I always take a few items from home to help my stay, but these are minimal. Our stay at Orchard view was fabulous, the cottage is a home from home, from the moment you walk in you know that you are going to be comfortable, as we visited in Feb not the warmest or driest of times to holiday. It was warm and cosy as soon as you walked through each room. Both bedrooms are spacious and both have more than enough storage space, you would have to take an enormous amount of clothing to fill the wardrobes and drawers, Our super king sized bed was sooooo comfortable, and a good height to get in and out of, I cannot stand upright from low furniture. Jacques the home owner was super helpful, and knowledgeable about the area and what things are available to do. Our granddaughter loved the hot tub as did I, I was amazed that I was able to get in and more importantly back out, with help from my partner and granddaughter. Even though the weather was cold the hot tub was a dream, helped with my aches and pains and so relaxing. As you can gather I could go on forever about this cottage. The scenery from each room is glorious, even if you are not interested in horses you cannot help but love the landscape and it is so peaceful.
