What our customers say about their holidays

    • Andrew - Verified booking

The Rousdon Estate is a fantastic place to stay.

There are good short walks around the estate with a lot of interesting and quirky buildings to look at. For longer walks, the massive plus is that the estate has its own path down to the Undercliff (about half way along) from where you can walk to Seaton or Lyme Regis. If you cross the Undercliff path the private path continues on to a private beach which was virtually deserted both times we went (although the path is quite challenging). 2, Old Home Farm itself is a very clean, airy and well-appointed house which had easily enough space and seats, etc for seven of us. The large fridge-freezer was particularly welcome as we did a lot of cooking ourselves. The house also has a nice sunny garden, front and back. We didn't have any of the problems previous guests had with showers (we've had a lot worse!) However, although it was very clean, we did have a few niggles about how the house had been left for us. First, we had asked (when booking and also by phone the week before we came) for both the beds in bedrooms 1 & 3 to be made up as superkings. We had received an email saying that this would be done but bedroom 3 was still a twin when we arrived. We had to zip-link it ourselves and luckily we had brought a spare double sheet and duvet. Second, like the previous reviewer in April we were pretty appalled to be greeted by a pile of 26 empty bottles just lying around outside the back of the house. Then we found a further 14 bottles in a food waste bin in the same location, making 40 in all. Clearly the cleaners expected that it was future guests' responsibility to dispose of their predecessors' empties. Anyway, we put them all in black sacks and put them in the orange top black bin - where all rubbish and recycling has to go - and put the bin out on Tuesday night for Wednesday collection. We found out about this in the guest book but it would be helpful if this info could be displayed more prominently. In addition, there was no outside bucket for cleaning our dog's paws after a muddy walk so we bought a Lyme Regis "Crab Bucket". Before leaving, we wrote "2, Old Home Farm" on this bucket and left it outside the back door for future dog owning guests to use, so we hope that it is still there. Finally, we would like to say that these were only minor irritations and we really enjoyed our stay at 2, Old Home Farm and on the Rousdon estate and would definitely recommend it

We found your description of the cottage location very misleading.

Your whole description conjurs up an atmosphere of an idyllic, peaceful countryside setting, with phrases such as 'Set the heart of the village Conservation Area.' 'On a summer evening enjoy sitting and relaxing in the garden enjoying the summer sun.' 'The lovely Wey Valley Walks pass right by the back gate at the old stone bridge across the trout river, In the village, the pretty medieval church is well worth a visit, nestled in a dip next to the manor house.' There is no mention in your detailed description of the main busy road at the back of the propery which can be clearly heard especially in the bedroom, with the traffic waking us up early in the morning. The cars are clearly visible from the sitting room window, as they pass just outside. The village is simply an area of Weymouth with the walk into town involving walking along a busy road. We would not have rented this propery had we been given a more honest description of the location. Of lesser importance but still worth commenting on: you mention that the cottage is attached to the owners' house but we were surprised that we were next to their kitchen and could hear them from our sitting room. On our arrival the owner and guests were having a 'get together' in the kitchen, right next door to the entrance to our cottage and were clearly visible through the window. This was off putting as we hunted for the key to our property-everyone looking at us through the window! We would also point out that describing the main door to the cottage as 'red' in an attempt to help us identify it, is unhelpful as the door to the owner's cottage and back gate (leading straight on to the road!) are also red. This is the first time we have rented through Dream Cottages and wonder if your information and descriptions are verified by members of your company. We would welcome a response from you.

The location is perfect for exploring the coast up to Lyme Regis in one direction, and Poole in the other.

It is also an easy walk into Weymouth, taking us about 40 minutes. We would advise to stay off the A35 which always seems to be busy. It is preferable to take the B-roads/local routes. Be aware of high parking charges in some of the resorts - do your research. The cottage itself was very well furnished and had everything you would need and there is a choice of supermarkets just a 5 minute drive away. This cottage is alongside quite a busy road, particularly during the rush hour and vehicle noise is especially noticeable when you are in the bedroom. I understand a previous couple complained about this and the 'increased' traffic was put down to roadworks. We did not see any roadworks to substantiate this so unclear if the road noise is usual. I think customers should be aware as some would not be expecting this. However, this did not particularly bother us.

Just returned from a 3 night stay and wish we could have stayed longer.

We travelled as a family - 6 adults, 1 child & 1 dog and found the property to be very spacious, clean and comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped, water was always hot and the garden was pretty and safe for the dog. There were just a couple of negative things. One being all the showers were fairly weak, particularly the one over the bath. Secondly, the outside bins were full of rubbish from the previous occupants. We realise the bins are only emptied once per week but it did make it a bit tricky getting rid of our own rubbish. Plus, seeing a load of wine and beer bottles outside the property on arrival was a bit unsightly. The estate & surrounding area is lovely, very peaceful, with easy access to Lyme & other towns/villages. We would happily book this property again & hope to return next year.

This was our second visit to 2 Old Home Farm, this time we stayed for a week.

As before, the property was very clean on arrival and well equipped with everything we needed. The location is lovely and peaceful but also very close to nearby towns & the beach at Lyme Regis. We were a family of 6 adults, 1 baby & 1 dog & there was plenty of space in the property for everyone. We just had a couple of niggles which I think have been mentioned in previous reviews. The shower in the downstairs shower room would not drain away. We used a plunger to help clear it but I think this needs looking at properly. The heating in the kitchen & downstairs shower room didn’t seem to work the whole week we were there & the door from the lounge out into the hall doesn’t shut properly. None of these things would prevent us from returning & we would happily come back again to 2 Old Home Farm
