This is a beautiful propery with spacious rooms.
It is tastefully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen is well equiped and we cooked several meals in the large kitchen. The owners left a lovely bunch of flowers to welcome us to Lower Culvermead. There is plenty of hot water. There is a small enclosed courtyard garden which our pet enjoyed. The cottage is sited in a quiet location very close to Tavistock, which is our favourite side of the moor. So that was brilliant! Our visit was in October and we noted that the central heating and bathroom towel rail is controlled by the owner, so you cannot just put it on if you feel chilly, or showering outside of the programmed settings. The owners advise that you text them if you wish the heating to be put on outside of its usual settings. During our stay the heating was on for 2hrs in the morning and 4hrs in the evening. The range was not in use. We thought that the range would make the property really warm during the winter months. There were no instructions on how to use it and it looked as though it had not been used for a long time. There were a couple of oil filled radiators for use if you felt chilly. We managed fine, as the central heating once on, was very warming. Our preference is to be able to control the heating, especially if you holiday during colder months. Although in the summer this would not be a consideration. We missed not having a brush and dustpan to easily sweep up crumbs etc from the kitchen, rather than having to use the vacuum. We enjoyed our stay and Rupert was very friendly and accommodating.

This is an absolutely wonderful cottage.
Not only in a beautiful village, with picture postcard vistas, it is extremely well presented and equipped, even if you had the full quota of guests, which is not always the case. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and very much hope we will visit again or even the smaller cottage next door. Close to Salisbury, Wilton, Stonehenge, Old Sarum and Amesbury and plenty a bit further afield too. Really, the best of all worlds, countryside walks, city history and heritage. Highly recommended. Would be ideal for a family get together. Marvellous for Christmas. Due to age and layout of cottage there are some low ceilings, varying levels and narrow staircase. This is is only important if you have people in your party that may find it tricky. I would recommend asking if it is likely to be an issue for you. That said my 83 year old mother in law managed ok, carefully! Has downstairs loo which makes life easier. Lovely pub, just refurbished and reopened and community shop, post office/café was very handy. Don't miss Reddish House, former home of Sir Cecil Beaton/Toyah Wilcox and Robert Fripp, all but next door.

The Old Bakery Flat is a beautiful space and the owners have gone to great lengths to decorate it with interesting paintings, pieces of art and stained glass, however we felt that flat was rather 'style over substance'. For example, whilst there are a series of 5 huge stoneware jars under the TV, there's no tea pot. There are lovely things to look at, but it is lacking in the essentials that would have improved our stay: no little bowls to put nuts or crisps in, no trays, no boards for cheese... no dishwasher, etc – and yet there are 11 egg cups! Why 11 when the flat only sleeps 6? Elements of the flat were delightful, like the spacious sofa under the glass roof, which allows you to bask in the sun and enjoy the views across the roof tops of St Ives, but again, other elements were sadly lacking. We have a king-size bed at home, so this meant the double beds felt very small. There's room in the master bedroom for a king-size bed, and I think most people expect this now. The bath towels feel old and thin, and in my house would be used as hand towels! They're too small - bath sheets would be nice.

Iâve never left a review before, but Iâve never felt like I needed too.
This was one of the dirtiest places I have stayed in a long time! I took photos upon arrival and sent them straight over because it was unacceptable, animal hair all over the bed, pillows, throws; tables still having stains on from whomever stayed before us. It looked like because it was just after Christmas Day that the owners forgot to âfullyâ clean and so we had to do it upon arrival after a 6 hour drive. The bedding had hair all inside so that had to be washed before we could even sleep, there was also a very strange smell in the en-suite which we couldnât debunk which lasted the whole stay. The beautiful flowers people spoke about in the reviews were half dead when we arrived, and it felt like no care was given before our stay. The place is also extremely dusty and needs a deep clean! Itâs such a shame because Iâm sure the place could be amazing if the thought was there for everyoneâs stay.

We have just spent a glorious week at Lower Culvermead, a property that dates back to the 1400's.
Set in rural Devon countryside it is an escapists dream, no planes, no over-bearing road noise, just perfect peace. We took our dog, Fergus, who took full advantage of the field, permitted access with the booking The property itself is capacious consisting of large lounge, well-fitted kitchen , a beautiful bedroom with a good sized en-suite. The decor of the whole property is of a high standard. Our feeling was of a trip back in time with all the luxury of modern conveniences. Our favourite part of the property was the secluded courtyard, which is a real sun-trap in the afternoon. The garden room is cool and comfortable, a great place to sit and read. The owners, Claire and Ru are friendly and approachable, they have created a wonderful holiday let, situated off the beaten track, nevertheless it is a property well worth the visit. We are already making plans to return
