Garthgate Lodge is an exceptional place to stay.
Sarah, the owner, has thought of everything. As an example, Sarah caters for your dog better than a number of places cater for the fee paying humans. There's dog treats, poo bags, dog bed, bowls, etc. As for the Lodge itself, it is equipped to a very high standard, I would say better than most peoples homes. The layout is perfect, the rooms are a great size, the walk-in shower is brilliant and big enough for two (only for water saving reasons of course :) ). The hot tub is a god send and being undercover, means regardless of the weather, it can be enjoyed all year round. The garden is dog friendly (there is a barrier which goes across the Lodge entrance to prevent your dog from escaping) and a perfect sun trap. The welcome basket and food provided was absolutely a lovely, tasteful touch. Sarah as an owner, lives on an adjacent property and communication with her was spot on. Having spoken to Sarah on a couple of occasions, she is a lovely person, enjoys catering for guests in the Lodge and really does make people feel welcome. Her suggestion of a nearby beach for our dog was impeccable, so much nicer than Whitby, both for our dog and ourselves. A nicer host you could not find! The best compliment I can give is that we will be coming back here in the near future, to explore Yorkshire a bit more and to enjoy the Lodge again. Would I recommend Garthgate Lodge to others? I would but don't want to as it is a gem I'd rather keep to myself.

We stayed at Garthgate Holiday Lodge for 4 nights between 17th July and 21st July 2023.
When we arrived, the lodge was very well presented and was lovely and clean. What you see in the photoâs is exactly how it is, beautifully decorated throughout. The kitchen is well stocked with all the amenities you can think of, plus more! The bed is amazingly comfortable, giving us 4 nights of great sleep. The bathroom is luxurious including large walk-in raindrop shower. The hot tub was immaculately clean and under cover via a gazebo. We found the temperature to be perfect. Sarah is a very welcoming host and was happy to answer any questions we had. There were so many little touches that made the world of difference, including simple written instructions for appliances placed around the lodge. The jar of hygiene amenities in the bathroom in case you forget anything. Torches in the bedside drawers in case of a power cut during the night (Not that we had a power cut during our stay). Even the high spec free Wi-Fi and Netflix subscription! They really had thought of everything from a guesses perspective and got it covered. We have stayed at similar lodges before and found Garthgate to be superior to them all. We would have no hesitation recommending Garthgate Lodge and will be looking to make a return visit soon. The cottage is really lovely and cosy, and hot tub/garden is great!
We had issues with plumbing in the bathroom (sink taps - hot tap very noisy and cold tap sometimes didn't work). There was also a leak on the radiator in the back bedroom which resulted in a wet carpet but this was sorted out by the owner the same day. The only feedback I would have is that there were only three wine glasses and three prosecco glasses (not matching) which was slightly problematic when there were four adults staying there!! There were also only two glass tumblers which was disappointing. I found it slightly odd that bath/hand towels were supplied but no tea towel in the kitchen - I did see the note saying to bring a tea towel at the bottom of the email, but I just don't see why it could be provided when everything else is?! Overall it was a great cottage in a great location and would stay again if I wanted to visit the area - would make sure I brought some glasses with me though! Thanks for a lovely stay

We had a 2 night stay in this gorgeous property and it definitely lived up to expectations.
There was four of us and there was plenty of room without feeling cramped. The kitchen/dining area is perfect size to chill out and all relax together so much so we barely used the living room. Everything that would we need was provided and the property was clean. The host had included small details including games and a lot of information of attractions in the local area. Although it is on a main road, we barely noticed passing cars. The only downfall is the lack of amenities in the area due to it being a small village and having specific opening times but we were aware of this at the time of the booking. Scarborough isn't too far a drive and there's plenty of lovely places to eat out and things to do. We didn't have any issues during our stay and was just what we needed for a relaxing break away. Just disappointed we didn't book for longer! Definitely recommend and hope to book again in the future Thank you very much!xx

The Apple Barn is a little gem.
It is beautifully and thoughtfully presented with plenty of attention to detail. Even the knives for food preparation were sharp (a first for me in holiday cottages). The bed and bed linen are great. Also there were white towels and grey towels so you always knew you were using your own towel. We would have liked more instructions in the booklet about how to dispose of food waste, dry mixed recycling and general rubbish. We were working from home and there is not a lot of space for two work stations but it is a holiday cottage not a live/work space. The wifi connection was excellent. We would happily come again but if we did we would try to book one of the other two units as they have a better view and access to the garden. Neither were available for our dates which were a last minute booking after another owner had let us down by cancelling our stay. We feel very lucky to have been here in the peace and quiet.
