Just returned from a 2 day stay.
The cottage is basically OK but had some serious maintenance issues that ruined our stay: The boiler broke down on our first day so we had not heating or hot water. We ended up having to walk across a courtyard to another empty cottage to use a single bathroom rather than having two ensuites that we'd paid for. We reported that at 8am and it wasn't fixed until 5pm (after we chased again at 4:30pm) and it seemed that there is no emergency policy in place for 24/7 boiler/maintenance cover. The person we spoke to was not exactly sympathetic and it felt like we were an inconvenience, not a customer. Looking at feedback, it's not a new problem. We thought that was the end of it, but later that evening the electricity tripped and we lost use of all sockets and the kitchen. So, again we had to go over to the other (rather musty smelling) cottage to use the kitchen to cook dinner. At least the lights and heating stayed on! The owner did promise to give us a refund, which is good, although in all honesty just a bit more empathy would have gone a long way. She said that we'd have to apply to Sykes Cottages (via this form) to get the refund. Something else I didn't report at the time - there is obviously a rodent problem (although we didn't see any). There are mouse poison dispensers everywhere (outside and inside the property) to prevent this becoming an issue. However, it will be very easy for mice to get into the property as there is nearly an inch gap, for the full length under the front door! Presence of mice is normal out in the country, but what concerned me was that the poison dispensers in the front courtyard had not be loaded properly and I found my dog licking a poison block. Fortunately I saw this as soon as she had found it and she's fine, but these really should be pet proof! All in all this was a pretty poor experience, which is a shame as with a little bit of an upgrade (e.g. fixed heating system, new sofas) and better customer focus (e.g. providing a welcome pack with a pint of milk and providing better instructions to get there as the satnav postcode given takes you to the wrong place) it could be quite nice.

Late December For us, it was far too cold the first day to sleep upstairs so we hard to use the sofas and keep the log wood fire going for as along as we can.
The following day, the owners organised an electrical radiator for us. Problem solved we thought. As it transpired, the main bedroom bed is far to short to sleep on for my 6ft husband, so he still ended up using the downstairs sofa or one of the twin beds which were larger. Either way, for a get away together this wasnât ideal. We also did not realise from the pictures of description, that the view with gravel in front was a driveway for the cottage owners next door. So, we didnât feel secluded as we hoped we would with some of the goings on for next door as well as just them entering and leaving their property. Maybe it would have been fine weâre not for the large floor to ceiling windows and doors. So, instead of enjoying the view we often had the curtains closed. The shower over the bath is somewhat tricky in such a small space, you almost have to stand on the curve side of the bath to directly under it. The internet kept going off, which wasnât great when no dvd players with films had been provided. Weâve stayed in many beautiful places, and Wonât be returning. As nice as the owners are, we would have liked to have seen them much less (or to be politely reminded the night before to leave on time as turnover for them is the same day). Given the house didnât get warm enough until day 2, quite frankly the owners should have the foresight to refund us for that first night, never mind a partial repayment for the rest of the holiday given that me and my partner could not share a room together that we wanted. Not much of a secluded getaway.

A very enjoyable stay, we have stayed here before, albeit some years ago. I did not give it 5 stars as I thought there were some cleaning and maintenance issues about the property. The cottage was well equipped especially the kitchen. On first sight the cottage was clean, however it needed a thorough deep clean - in particular the carpets were very stained (especially the stair carpet) and the skirting boards and the windowsills had not been cleaned for a long time. One night it rained and knowing a window was open upstairs I went to close it. A little rain had come in, so I wiped the rain drops up, the cloth I used to dry was very dirty after wiping the window ledge and sill. Also there did not appear to be any bins for recycling. As a general point the welcome hampers seemed to have been reduced from what I remember from previous visits to RR cottages over many years. Bread, butter, flowers, eggs for example do not appear to be included any more - nice little touches that set RR apart from other companies.

If I could give this 6 stars or 11/10 I would, excellent value for money, its one fantastic place to stay, very clean and comfortable and has all mod cons, great location if you like to view the Jets passing by , which they do via the Mach Loop :-).
All facility's are there inc BBQ and Hot Tub if you want to indulge. Milk, tea, coffee and sugar along with some treats left for you to enjoy on your arrival. Mari is lovely, friendly and very willing to help in any way. I cant really give any negative views as for me there is not any, however if your a hardcore TV fan and like your soaps etc it may be a problem for you as there is no live Sky or Freeview, only 4 streaming channels like BBC i player, ITV X etc but if you can live without this for your stay then you wont be disappointed, for us it did not matter as we go any not to watch TV but to escape ! There are some big trees that block some of the views of the valley at present ( July 2024 ) but these are in process of being removed to give a full panoramic view. 100% we will be going back again, maybe again this year but if not defiantly next year. I congratulate Mari on a very well presented Cottage, top marks :-) Thank you for a great stay.

Lovely cottage in an ideal location to explore the local area.
The pool and games room were the reason we booked here and we are glad we did. The pool was warm and private and despite being shared we had it to ourselves at times. The games tables were excellent for the children too and they have now taken a keen interest in table tennis! Lovely big field ideal for my dogs in the morning. The cottage was very comfortable with all the accessories you needed. Beds were the most comfortable beds weâve ever slept on whilst on holiday. The cottage was very clean and the area was quiet. The welcome items were much appreciated and having the washing up liquid was a plus - an antibacterial spray would have been handy too. The heating was excellent - so warm and toasty - especially the underfloor heating in the bathrooms. Overall a lovely relaxing short break and we are looking to book again later on in the year.
