What our customers say about their holidays

    • Keith - Verified booking

      Location Likes.

Amazing location away from main roads which was extremely quiet. Just 50 minutes drive to Scarborough snd very close to York. Lovely kitchen to a very high standard with well equipped utensils (lacking a pizza cutter was the only missing item) Bed is very comfortable and bigger than a super king size. Bathroom has a large walk-in shower with swirlflush toilet. The views are stunning looking out over a beautiful countryside with the enclosed garden being a god send for our Beagle who like to 'explore' so keeping him safe. The following are dislikes. Sofas are very small and uncomfortable spoiling the comfort when relaxing. Needs a corner sofa where you can relax properly. There is a driveway to the owners storage yard which is a few feet away from the window, wrecking privacy when vans drive past or delivery vehicles looking in (careful if sitting in your pants lol as you'll be seen). Hot tub in garden is over looked by owners property which really didn't make us feel comfortable using it. Kitchen has a great extraction for the hob with a metal outlet pipe going outside, sadly the outlet to this has a nonreturn flap which keeps flapping down on reverse wind causing a loud tapping like someone's tapping the windows which can disturb the dog or you if your a light sleeper like me. This was really annoying. The fridge freezer has a faulty solenoid which keeps making a loud click when the thermostat cycles on and off which again causes sleep issues. The fencing and or gate is loose in its housing and thus when there's a slight wind, there is a rattle back and forwards causing the iron mongery to rattle. There was a lovely welcoming hamper which was amazing, the wife got me to by a caffetier because the coffee was that nice. Overall, the property is new and has teething problems. No expense has been spared making this an amazing property. If the things above were to be fixed, I'd definitely return but as it stands I wouldn't return. We didn't meet the hosts, which is what I prefer being a person who like to go on holiday and just enjoy time away quietly. Some hosts can be quite intrusive, but these weren't. Thank you.

Garthgate Lodge is an exceptional place to stay.

Sarah, the owner, has thought of everything. As an example, Sarah caters for your dog better than a number of places cater for the fee paying humans. There's dog treats, poo bags, dog bed, bowls, etc. As for the Lodge itself, it is equipped to a very high standard, I would say better than most peoples homes. The layout is perfect, the rooms are a great size, the walk-in shower is brilliant and big enough for two (only for water saving reasons of course :) ). The hot tub is a god send and being undercover, means regardless of the weather, it can be enjoyed all year round. The garden is dog friendly (there is a barrier which goes across the Lodge entrance to prevent your dog from escaping) and a perfect sun trap. The welcome basket and food provided was absolutely a lovely, tasteful touch. Sarah as an owner, lives on an adjacent property and communication with her was spot on. Having spoken to Sarah on a couple of occasions, she is a lovely person, enjoys catering for guests in the Lodge and really does make people feel welcome. Her suggestion of a nearby beach for our dog was impeccable, so much nicer than Whitby, both for our dog and ourselves. A nicer host you could not find! The best compliment I can give is that we will be coming back here in the near future, to explore Yorkshire a bit more and to enjoy the Lodge again. Would I recommend Garthgate Lodge to others? I would but don't want to as it is a gem I'd rather keep to myself.

We stayed at Garthgate Holiday Lodge for 4 nights between 17th July and 21st July 2023.

When we arrived, the lodge was very well presented and was lovely and clean. What you see in the photo’s is exactly how it is, beautifully decorated throughout. The kitchen is well stocked with all the amenities you can think of, plus more! The bed is amazingly comfortable, giving us 4 nights of great sleep. The bathroom is luxurious including large walk-in raindrop shower. The hot tub was immaculately clean and under cover via a gazebo. We found the temperature to be perfect. Sarah is a very welcoming host and was happy to answer any questions we had. There were so many little touches that made the world of difference, including simple written instructions for appliances placed around the lodge. The jar of hygiene amenities in the bathroom in case you forget anything. Torches in the bedside drawers in case of a power cut during the night (Not that we had a power cut during our stay). Even the high spec free Wi-Fi and Netflix subscription! They really had thought of everything from a guesses perspective and got it covered. We have stayed at similar lodges before and found Garthgate to be superior to them all. We would have no hesitation recommending Garthgate Lodge and will be looking to make a return visit soon. Inkpen Cottage is one of the best holiday homes we have stayed in! Everything as described and in working order, which hasn’t always been our experience. Renovated to a high standard and tastefully furnished, the cottage is warm & welcoming providing a very relaxing stay. There is a lovely private garden which is a great space to just sit and watch the sunsets and the full moon!! The hosts have it just right - generous welcome hamper, respond promptly to messages yet respect your privacy throughout the stay. Finally great location for exploring the area…Sissinghurst, Great Dixter, Rye, Hastings and there’s a lovely friendly pub and bakery in the local village. Would highly recommend.

      Wow, what a find!

We had such a lovely stay, with everything you would ever need for a relaxing getaway. The attention to detail really makes this place special, including the lovely welcome pack with local produce and doggy treats. The hot tub was perfect and really made our stay. The cottage is within walking distance (about 20 minutes) to two local villages, we recommend the fish and chip shop in Rillington and the Ham and Cheese Pub (dog friendly) in Scagglethorpe - the food at the pub was amazing and had a homely atmosphere. An amazing few days in the cottage, including a trip to nearby Malton. 10/10, we will be back!!! Thank you so much for having us and the warm welcome.
